Types of Electric Vehicle charging points
There are various different charge points available on the market from different manufacturers.
These are Rapid, Fast and Slow types. Rapid chargers can be found at places such as Motorway service stations and other public locations.
These can charge a vehicle in up to 20 minutes dependent on model.
Fast EV Chargers
Fast chargers are the main type to install at your home or business.
These are either 7kw, 11kw or 22kw. Houses generally can only supply 7kw.
You may need adaptions to your supply fuse size and or earthing to install these.
These chargers are capable of charging a typical car to 100% within 8 hrs. These are the type we install most commonly.
Fast chargers can be tethered or untethered versions – one has the charging cable permanently attached and the other has a removable plug in charging cable.
The two examples below are of the same manufacturers version of both types.
Slow EV Chargers
Slow chargers are designed to top up a car, but take a long time up to 12 hours or more.
These are sometimes provided with your electric vehicle and can be plugged into a standard 13 amp socket outlet. Sometimes these are referred to as Granny Chargers.
We would only recommend these as a temporary measure and always recommend a dedicated charge point.
Once your electrical system is declared adequate for an EV charger we can typically install one in a day or less. This will be confirmed at the initial survey.
